To become part of our Volunteer Team, you will need to:

q       Be 13 years of age or older (youth ages 13-18 require parental consent to volunteer)

q       Complete a Volunteer Application and Waiver

q       Attend a volunteer orientation (generally any scheduled Adoption Event)

q       Be a people-friendly "team player" capable of following instructions

q       Have a strong desire to have fun working for a great cause!

A Volunteer Orientation is an informal opportunity for us to provide an overview of Petropolis and to present how volunteers contribute to our mission.  This casual informational session is intended to help you make an educated decision in volunteering with us.

See the "News and Events" section on our Home page for the date and location of our next scheduled Volunteer Orientation!

Please Note:

Because we are a foster home-based adoption organization and do not have a physical shelter to act as a "center of operations," much of what we do as volunteers involves networking via phone and e-mail communications.  As such, while many of our adoption and fundraising events offer a welcome opportunity to socialize, we find our most successful volunteers are those who don't mind working independently much of the time.

Foster Team

Give love and care to animals!  Provide in-home care to anything from a litter of kittens or puppies to a single dog or cat.  Help rehabilitate sick or injured animals prior to their approval for adoption.  Foster Care Team members receive animal care training and supplies and can determine the types of animals they care for.

Transport Team

Transport Team members assist in the relocation of animals from various animal control facilities and humane societies to our network of foster homes.  They also assist in getting animals to and from vet appointments, adoption events, and various other functions.

Adoption Team

Every day Petropolis receives numerous calls and e-mails regarding available animals, adoption policies, or the status of their adoption application.  Adoption Team members are our matchmakers, following up on inquiries, determining the needs of our potential customers, and deciding if we have an animal available that meets those needs.  This is a people-oriented position that requires a knowledge of breeds and animal behavior as well as a high level of professionalism and diplomacy.  It is also one of the most rewarding opportunities available.  In addition to doing phone and e-mail communication, our adoption counselors participate in off-site adoption events at area pet supply stores.

Fundraising Team

Our Fundraising Team works to generate funds in a variety of ways, from grant writing to bake sales and car washes.  Creativity, organizational skills, and a friendly, persuasive demeanor are the best assets of our Fundraising Team members.

Marketing Team

Advertising is very important to the continued success of Petropolis.  We are always striving to get our name out into the community and to make Petropolis the first place people turn when searching for their next family pet.  The Marketing Team develops advertising campaigns, promotional ideas, and more.
